I saw this at a screening last week and just have to set the record straight. This is not a sex flick. It is a story set in the 1950's and 1970's and the relationships involve some adult behavior. (Remember the 70's when there were a lot of drugs and a lot of sex? Sure not everyone lived the party life but some did and that is all Where the Truth Lies shows). Intimacy is part of the story, character development and not put in just to show some skin. Plus Atom directed the film so well that you are never drawn to the nudity, you are drawn to the characters. Bravo to Firth and Bacon for genuine performances, and not shying away from a good story. Lesser actors could not have pulled it off. It is an honest, beautifully shot film. Sometimes it felt long but maybe I was just tired. Nothing in this film is offensive unless you are a very immature adult. Worth the $ to see this movie.

A clever look: imitation vintage B-movie in black and white; Steven Soderbergh's appropriate, artful gimmick for this film set in Berlin in the immediate aftermath of WWII.

Cate Blanchett turns in an apt theatrical performance given "The Bad German's" archly retro conceit. As the film's mother/whore femme fatale, Cate is sphinx-like, world-weary and made up like a drag queen at Mardi Gras. George Clooney, meanwhile, turns in his routine performance that is altogether too modern and casual. Put him in scrubs and he's ready again for the ER. Together, they create no chemistry nor any other natural science. Toby McGuire, as a sleazy, black-marketing GI, is so painfully hammy you'll find yourself begging for him to stop.

The storyline is awkwardly developed and unnecessarily opaque, its characters cold and remote. There's really nobody to cheer for or identify with; no emotions to hook us into this world. When was the last time that international intrigue, on-screen, was so unintriguing? It's too bad we've been served such an exciting cinematic look -- an overly lit, noir-like one -- only as window dressing on a story as bleak and dreary as the blitzkrieged landscapes on view.

Darkly comic tale, 1 January 2004

Chuck Barris is a man who decides that his future is in television and tries to come up with ideas for new shows to elevate himself up from the position of tour guide. When his show isn't picked up from the pilot, he is approached by Jim Byrd who offers him work with the CIA. When he finds out that this work is basically as an assassin, he still does it and begins to become quite proficient at it. When his show ideas get picked up by the network he continues to kill, using his job as a producer as cover.

Although I missed this at the cinema, I was keen to get this film when it came out on DVD and wasn't disappointed by the film. The tone from the start is darkly comic, becoming increasingly dark and decreasingly comic as it goes along. Supposedly based on a true story this can be enjoyed with little or no knowledge of the characters and TV shows involved - indeed I had never heard of Barris even if I was aware of what UK TV calls Blind Date. I don't know if it makes it a better or worse film for supposedly being true - I enjoyed it even with me treating it like a work of fiction more than anything else.

Not all the plot really worked of course. As it gets darker it begins to lose it's grip and become slightly less entertaining but strangely more watchable. It is at it's best in the first half though. While Barris and Byrd are good characters, some aren't as well used and you get the impression that the script wishes they weren't involved at all, certainly Penny and Patricia were a little confused and what was hinted at was never revealed in terms of who they were.

Rockwell runs the film really well and copes with the comic stuff and the darker stuff. Clooney is quite a good character in a small role but he does better as director. He uses cross cuts really well and has a lot of help from his cinematographer in terms of effective use of lighting and such. Considering this is his debut as director he does a surprisingly assured job and has a good sense of style. Stars clutter the support cast, some in OK roles and some in cameos. Barrymore is OK but I didn't find her character that interesting, Roberts is more interesting but the significance of her character in Barris' life wasn't developed well enough. Hauer is good and Pitt, Damon and Gyllenhaal make fleeting appearances.

Overall this was a very enjoyable film with it's own unique dark tone and comic content. It may not be 100% successful but it is a film more worthy of viewing than most of the stuff that you see on the shelves at your local video store. Not to everyone tastes perhaps (and it didn't make money at the box office) but Rockwell is great, Clooney shows a deft touch as director and the story is both funny and dramatic even if I'm still unsure whether it is true (or semi-true) or not.

You can object to the choice to make this film about a so-called depressive. You can object that Jim doesn't just snap out of it. But of all the things you can say about Lonesome Jim, you can't say it is badly made.

This film is like a meditation: it totally clears the mind of everything else and allows you to focus on what is there in front of you.

The grainy film did not strike me as low quality or cheap. It made the film like watching home movies; there is nothing glamorous about this scene. It was totally in keeping with the theme of muted emotion. The graininess sometimes slows things down so much that the characters appear to be talking through the haze of their dull surroundings, and they are the liveliest things about the situation. It almost transforms film into a cartoon drama by the younger sibling.

Is the main character Jim (Casey Affleck) suffering from depression? Well, alright. But that assessment papers over the interesting sources of the emotion stifling: the relationship between son and parents, and how he has subverted his personality with them; and the relationship he has with the rest of his hometown.

The whole thing is so real – we especially digest meaning during Jim's driving scenes, inevitably at twilight when the post industrial fading rural landscape is at its most evocative, stirring feelings of profound longing and sadness.

(There must be a retrospective of Sensitive Boy flicks somewhere. To my recollection, Ordinary People could be the first in the series, but among the others, and I'm sure there are many, many more than I can think of here, are You Can Count on Me, and Imaginary Heroes. I've also heard that Garden State could be slotted in there, but I haven't seen it.)

This is a brilliant film.

So why not give it 10 out of 10? Because we do not know yet if it will stand the test of time. Already Ordinary People does not pack the same punch as did 20 odd years ago. Also, these films have a relatively small theme. So though while intense and delicate in emotional depiction, their reach is rather narrow and might not possess any universal themes. They are particularly US-centric. Which is fine, but it precludes them from greatness.

A beautiful and moving film. I didn't know what it was about as the trailer didn't reveal much other than the relationship between Nighy and McDonald so I was thinking it was just a gentle love story, a British 'Lost in Translation'.

But what transpired was so much more than that. I thought the way the enormous issue of global poverty and the few people who hold the political power to affect change was dealt with intelligently and sensitively and interwoven poignantly with the strange romance developing between the two leads.

I'm not too familiar with the background of the film but I would hazard a guess that the seeds of the project were sown when Richard Curtis wrote 'Love Actually' which included a subplot where the British PM (Hugh Grant) publicly opposed policies brought forward by the American president (Billy Bob Thornton).

Since 'Love Actually' was a light-hearted romantic comedy, the politics were never elaborated on but I'm sure that 'The Girl in the Cafe' was the opportunity for Curtis to put this topical issue into terms that anyone could understand and empathise with. The timing, of course, is impeccable, with the G8 summit to be held in Scotland within 2 weeks and widespread attention of the summit brought to the masses by Sir Bob Geldof and the simultaneous Live 8 series of concerts.

It goes without saying that the performances of the two leads are spot-on, Bill Nighy is the king of understated pathos as Lawrence and Kelly McDonald is gracious as the mysterious but steely Gina.

The film is shot in (literally) cool locations and makes a fantastic ad for the chilled aloofness that is Reykjavik.

But at the heart of this love story are the nameless, faceless millions who suffer daily and the ease with which this fact is taken as statistic. Africa has never before been on the forefront of social issues as it is today and to anyone who might be under the impression that poverty is an issue for politicians to sort out around the conference table, 'The Girl in the Cafe' is a potent reminder that the power to affect change is more immediate than we might think. Superb.

Last night I got in to a screening for Shade. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. I thought the acting was pretty good and the story definitely held my interest. There were plenty of twists and turns and the ending caught me by surprise. The film looks great and the card tricks were pretty cool, too.

This is a recommend from me.

This is a delightful and very entertaining movie. You do not have to be mad on cricket to love it (my partner Janie proves that point) but I suspect it helps.

My own background is quite similar to that of the young lad (not quite so long ago, not quite so poor, not quite so bad at cricket without coaching, not quite so good with coaching......) so my own views on the films charms and resonances are probably unrepresentative. Suffice it to say that the film touched almost all of the right buttons.

There are some lovely, amusing bits. For example, one sequence shows several short shots of the characters playing "yard cricket", including one shot of them trying to practice catching in their sowesters in the pouring rain. Hilarious and delightful.

The racism theme is handled with great sensitivity, but without the complexity that might otherwise make the film profound rather than obvious. The film is sentimental, at the end especially so, to the point of being cheesy. But then quattro formaggio with extra cheese and parmesan on top tastes pretty good.

There are one or two historical anomalies. Most reports of the film I have seen refer to the date as 1960. West Indies toured England with Worrell and Sobers in 1957 & 1963. Worrell was finished by 1966. I think it must therefore be 1963. But there's a lovely scene where the Jewish mother and West Indian father dance to "I'm in a Dancing Mood" by Delroy Wilson - published 1966. In fact most of the Ska (or should I describe some of it as Rock Steady) would have been post 1963 I think. But I suppose I should get a life rather than fret about these things - the music was wonderful. And juxtaposing Ska with "Micky Katz and his Kosher Jammers" and yard cricket worked surprisingly well.

It is a lovely film and well worth the investment of 106 minutes to smile, laugh and be moved.

Here's a film I really liked the first time, and was totally turned off on the second viewing as the Hollywood bias machine was in high gear again, and you can guess in what director (left or right). Anyway, two things remained the same: John Travolta as "Gabriel Shear" was riveting as an anti-terrorist terrorist. The explosion scene where people are flying sideways is awesome, particularly in the sound department if you have surround system. Oh, and yes, Halle Berry and her figure was on display in this film and quite a sight. Wowzer!

Some of this script is a takeoff on Dog Day Afternoon, which Travolta's character re-enacts a role from that famous '70s film. "Shear" talks about that movie during the film.

I almost got discouraged watching this in the first half hour because there is so much computer terminology that I was lost. However, if you find yourself in a similar spot, take heart because that that ends after that first 30 minutes and is no longer a problem.

Credibility and bias aside, it's still a fun movie for at least one viewing, with that early bomb scene most memorable.

"Broken Arrow" is a good action film about a Stealth pilot (John Travolta) who steals nuclear weapons one night during a practice mission. His goal is to sell the weapons back to the United States government by blackmailing them. Old partner Christian Slater is willing to stop Travolta at all costs with the help of ranger Samantha Mathis. Howie Long makes an impressive film debut as Travolta's evil henchman. The screenplay is smart enough to work and the direction is fast and furious. A film that is about as good as it can be. 4 stars out of 5.

I quit watching "The West Wing" after Aaron Sorkin quit writing and producing. It just wasn't the same. Imagine my thrill at seeing a film that he wrote again. It has been a long time - The American President, A Few Good Men. His script was a beautiful blend of humor and tragedy. He made a compelling story believable, and made me weep at the same time.

Tom Hanks was incredible as a small-time Texas Congressman whose constituents only wanted lower taxes and to keep their guns. Not a hard job, so he had plenty of time to fool around - and that he did. His office staff looked as if he were at the Playboy Mansion. Like he reportedly said, "You can teach them to type, but you can't teach them to grow tits." Despite his sexist attitude, which fits right in with a Texas Congressman, they were fiercely loyal, especially his aide, Amy Adams (Junebug & former Hooters girl).

Now, add a rich Texas socialite who wants something done in Afghanistan, played perfectly by Julia Roberts; and a pain-in-his-boss's-ass CIA agent, superbly done by Philip Seymour Hoffman, and you have a movie well worth watching.

Outstanding writing, and superlative acting, and a story that needed to be told. What more do you want at the movies?

I have been lucky to see Julio Medem's films at several film festivals over the years and he always manages to captivate his audience. I was fortunate enough to attend the UK premiere of his new masterpiece Caotica Ana at the London Film Fstival recently. He is arguably one of Spain's all time most important film makers, for example Stanley Kubrick said that Medem's "The Red Squirrel" was one of his all time favourite films and Steven Spielberg offered Medem the chance to direct "Zorro", which he later turned down to spend more time developing his own movies.

Caotica Ana is one of Medem's best films to date, beautifully filmed, beautifully acted and with an intensely captivating story of reincarnation and never ending love. Manuela Velles as Ana is enchanting and lights up the screen, Charlotte Rampling turns in a good performance in her first ever Spanish speaking role, Bebe provides much laughter and Asier Newman is simply hypnotic, exuding vulnerability and charisma. Sequences are at times "Chaotic" as per the title but are necessary to build emotional attachment to the story. The change between chaos and calm being personified in many ways through Ana's final journey to New York by boat, travelling on stormy and more tranquil waters. Overall a must see movie, very different to anything you have ever seen before and a real homage to the importance of women in society throughout the ages.

This film promised a lot, so many beautiful and well playing actors but with a plot that had virtually NOTHING to say. So many potentially promising conflicts between the family members that could have been developed and elaborated but it was all dropped and not taken care of. There was no story to be told, just a show off of acting, technique, beautiful scenes - that were all EMPTY. But again, the acting was excellent so many of the individual scenes were entertaining, but as you became increasingly aware of the lack of underpinning ideas, even the acting lost its sense. So from the promising start you became increasingly disappointed as the non-story went along.

Documentarul „Ultimul tango la München” promite să facă lumină în cazul „Goma - Tănase”, elucidând mistere nerezolvate peste un sfert de secol.

Unul dintre marile scandaluri care au depăşit curtea lui Nicolae Ceauşescu, în ultimul deceniu al regimului său, e subiectul unui documentar care anunţă dezvăluiri importante, „Ultimul tango la München”, în regia lui Alexander Nanau. Proiectul a primit cea mai mare finanţare - 380.000 de lei - la secţiunea documentar, la ultima sesiune a concursului Centrului Naţional al Cinematografiei. „Pe fundalul Războiului Rece al anilor ’80, documentarul tratează cazul conflictului dintre Nicolae Ceauşescu şi preşe dintele francez François Mitterrand, de clanşat aparent de ordinul lui Ceauşescu pentru asasinarea, la Paris, a scriitorilor români în exil Virgil Tănase şi Paul Goma”, explică producătorul Tudor Giurgiu, de la Libra Film.

Filmările vor începe anul acesta, producţia fiind asigurată de Libra Film, în colaborare cu Lichtblick din Germania şi Agat Films din Franţa, şi va fi gata de proiecţie în 2010. Scenariul întregii afaceri - decretată în acei ani „cel mai formidabil caz de spionaj”, „thriller din viaţa reală”, „o poveste demnă de James Bond” - e atât de complicat, încât nu a fost descifrat în totalitate nici până astăzi, lăsând cu generozitate loc speculaţiilor. În anii ’80, disidenţii Virgil Tănase şi Paul Goma deveniseră, se pare, inamicii publici nr. 1 ai regimului de la Bucureşti şi primele ţinte de pe agenda serviciilor secrete. Stabiliţi la Paris din 1977, cei doi criticau perseverent dictatura din ţară, în emisiunile de la Europa Liberă şi BBC.

Dictatorul român a intervenit la Mitterrand

Pe lângă propriii agenţi, Ceauşescu a apelat în acei ani la faimosul terorist Carlos Şacalul, însă întreaga operaţiune a culminat, în 1982, cu apariţia în scenă a lui Matei Pavel Haiducu. Ofiţerul - pe numele său real Hirsch, fiu al unui demnitar român din anii ’50 - venise la Paris cu ordin de lichidare, se pare, direct de la Ceauşescu. Din acest punct, imaginea devine neclară. Haiducu le-a divulgat misiunea sa celor de la Direcţia Generală de Securitate Exterioară fran ceză şi împreună cu ei a pus la cale un plan de intoxicare, bazându-se pe promisiunea că va primi protecţie oficială.

Când Tănase a dispărut brusc, iar despre Goma s-a anunţat că a fost otrăvit, faptele au fost puse pe seama agenţilor lui Ceauşescu. Deşi garantase o ieşire publică în legătură cu acest caz, François Mitterrand n-a mai făcut-o; după cum au descoperit autorii documentarului, dictatorul român îl redusese la tăcere pe preşedintele francez. La nivel diplomatic, dar şi al serviciilor secrete, operaţiunea a declanşat un scurt război rece între cele două state.

„Am refuzat să ucid”

Filmul cu aparenţă de „roman poliţist” promite să facă lumină în această poveste. „Documentarea a necesitat un an de muncă, cu numeroase deplasări, interviuri şi investigaţii în arhive. Cer ce tările au dus la descoperirea ade văratului mobil al conflictului Ceauşescu-Mitter rand, ceea ce aruncă o lumină nouă asupra cazului şi ne permite să desluşim azi mistere rămase nerezolvate timp de peste un sfert de secol”, precizează Giurgiu. Documentarul include interviuri cu Paul Goma, Virgil Tănase, apropiaţii lor, jurnalişti, foşti securişti şi angajaţi ai serviciilor secrete franceze, precum şi imagini de arhivă.

După ce şi-a schimbat identitatea (în 1984, agentul dublu publicase şi o carte despre întreaga poveste, “Am refuzat să ucid”, care nu a fost tradusă încă în limba română), Matei Pavel Haiducu s-a mutat cu familia dintr-un oraş în altul, lucrând ca agent de vânzări, până în 1998, când a încetat din viaţă.

Nici Paul Goma, nici Virgil Tănase nu s-au mai întors în ţară. Asupra lui Tănase, a cărui legătură cu regimul a fost incertă, planează încă semne de întrebare. Într-o scrisoare publicată în EVZ, în toamna lui 2006, dramaturgul a recunoscut că a semnat un angajament cu Securitatea în facultate, pentru a putea fi reprimit la studii. În plus, imediat după Revoluţie, Ion Iliescu l-a pus pe fostul disident în fruntea Centrului Cultural Român de la Paris.

CARTE DE VIZITĂ

Alexander Nanau, stabilit în Germania din 1990

* Născut în Bucureşti, în 1979, regizorul Alexander Nanau trăieşte în Germania din 1990.

* A absolvit Academia de Film şi Televiziune din Berlin şi a lucrat ca regizor secund la mai multe filme de cinema şi de televiziune, unul dintre acestea fiind „Taking Sides” (2001), în regia lui Istvan Szabo.

* Între 2002 şi 2006 a colaborat cu Peter Zadek la câteva producţii teatrale şi de cinema, inclusiv la „Peer Gynt”.

* Proiectul „Ultimul tango la München” va fi realizat cu ajutorul Institutului de Investigare a Crimelor Comunismului în România.

Fratelui meu din exil:

„Suntem înconjuraţi de denunţători”

Aceeaşi temă, a comunismului, abordează şi documentarul „Fratelui meu din exil”, de Anca Berlogea, o cronică a lumii staliniste în primii săi ani, văzută prin ochii Monseniorului Vladimir Ghika. |n 15 scrisori şi tot atâtea cărţi poştale trimise între 1948 şi 1952 fratelui său refugiat în Elveţia împreună cu Regele Mihai, Dimitrie Ghika - fost diplomat şi ministru de externe al României – preotul descrie cum lumea în care trăise luase brusc o faţă monstruoasă. Pornind de la această corespondenţă descoperită recent, regizoarea (sub numele Ana Boariu) a publicat anul trecut şi o carte, „Fratelui meu din exil: Epoca stalinistă în România în scrisorile Monseniorului Vladimir Ghika – prinţ, preot şi martir” – semnată împreună cu Emanuel şi Mihaela Cosmovici. „Ne vedem rar: suntem înconjuraţi de denunţători şi de persoane eliberate din inchisoare cu condiţia să devină informatori – asta creează o atmosferă sufocantă. Apar panici subite, adesea fără motiv, pornind de la veşti false”, scrie monseniorul într-o epistolă din 1951.

S-a stins la Jilava

„Tema care m-a interesat repetitiv, prin diferite proiecte pe care le-am finalizat anterior, a fost raportul dintre libertatea interioară a câtorva oameni şi persecuţia din timpul perioadei staliniste în România, în mod special împotriva Bisericii”, spune Anca Berlogea. |n 1952, Vladimir Ghika e arestat şi condamnat la trei ani de temniţă, după ce comuniştii îl găsesc vinovat de „complicitate la crimă de înaltă trădare”. Aproape trei ani a rezistat monseniorul chinurilor din puşcărie: în 1954 a murit la Jilava, la 80 de ani.

„Separarea celor doi fraţi, despărţiţi de Cortina de Fier, poate aduce o perspectiva dublă asupra situaţiei europene din perioada comunistă, văzută atât din est cât şi din vest”, explică regizoarea, care a început să documenteze subiectul încă din din 1999, când arhivele CNSAS nu erau întru totul deschise, însă abia în ultimii doi ani a găsit suficiente materiale.

„La familia de Briey, nepoţii lui Dimitrie Ghika, am reuşit să regăsesc în primăvara anului 2007 corespondenţa pierdută, menţionată în condamnarea tribunalului militar din 1953. 15 scrisori şi 15 cărţi poştale redau atmosfera înspăimântătoare a anilor 48-52, instalarea progresivă a regimului totalitar”, descrie Anca Berlogea, impresionată de tăria spirituală şi luciditatea, dar şi de umorul monseniorului născut la Constantinopol şi şcolit la Paris şi Roma.

Dan Condurache, în rolul lui Ghika

Regizoarea finalizează deocamdată o variantă de 40 de minute a filmului, însă, pentru cea de 90 de minute, ar mai fi necesari 150.000 de euro pentru a filma câteva scene de reconstituire şi pentru a cerceta arhivele din străinătate. Câteva astfel de secvenţe au fost realizate, de probă, în 2005, cu actorii Dan Condurache - în rolul lui Vladimir Ghika - Andreea Bibiri, Gabriel Spahiu, Constantin Drăgănescu, Constantin Cojocaru, Florin Kevorkian şi Sorin Cociş. Documentarul produs de Signis România nu are finanţare de la CNC şi nici o televiziune nu s-a arătat deocamdată interesată de proiect.

„În versiunea de 90 de minute, filmul ar fi inclus şi analiza, prin prisma memoriilor diplomatice ale lui Dimitrie Ghika, a situaţiei care a condus la scindarea în două a Europei, începând cu mişcările muncitoreşti de la începutul secolului, izbucnirea primului război mondial, crearea URSS şi poziţionarea României în perioada interbelică”, detaliază regizoarea.

ANAMARIA MARINCA: „Suntem pictori orbi“

La încheierea Berlinalei, actriţa, care a avut două premiere în cadrul festivalului, vorbeşte despre noile producţii şi despre următoarele sale proiecte.

La câţiva paşi de Palatul Berlinalei, în holul hotelul Hyatt, am întâlnit-o pe Anamaria Marinca. Răcită şi puţin răguşită după zecile de interviuri pe care le-a acordat în ultmile zile şi după ieşirile repetate pe covorul roşu în rochii de gală, în Berlinul în care persistă iarna.

O Anamaria veselă şi, în pofida succeselor sale, modestă. Abia aşezată la masă, începe prin a-şi desface de la mână brăţara cu sute de diamante pe care a purtat-o la premiera unuia dintre cele două filme prezentate la Berlinală, „Storm“ sau „The Countess“, şi o pune deoparte, spunând că „acesta este unul dintre lucrurile de care lumea nu are nevoie şi care ar salva viaţa multor copii din lumea a treia“.

Se scuză, dispare de la masă, apoi apare cu o rochie ascunsă într-o husă neagră. Dispare iar şi se întoarce cu regizorul filmului „Storm“, Hans-Christian Schmid, care pare la fel de modest, chiar timid. Aceasta din urmă apariţie este dovada spuselor Anamariei despre relaţia dintre ea, ca actor, şi regizorii cu care care colaborează.

EVZ: Esti printre putinele actriţe care au avut două premiere la Berlinală. Te simţi un star?
Anamaria Marinca: (tăcere) Nu! Nu ştiu. Chiar sunt printre singurele actriţe cu două premiere? Dacă e aşa, spune-mi tu cine mai e cu două premiere, apoi îţi spun eu dacă sunt un star.... (râde) Muncesc mult şi fac alegeri potrivite, se pare. Anul trecut am lucrat la 5 filme – acasă, în Londra, am stat doar două luni.

Brăţara pe care ai scos-o mai înainte din poşetă, de parcă ar fi fost o batistă, e şi ea o dovadă a statutului tău. Ţi-a încredinţat-o cineva ca să fii fotografiata cu ea ... apari în multe pagini de ziar zilele acestea...
Brăţara aparţinea sponsorilor festivalului, care ne oferă bijuterii doar să le purtam la festivităţi. Mi-au placut, le-am purtat cu plăcere, chiar dacă, în general, nu mă interesează. Când lucrezi câte 20 de ore pe zi, cu pregătiri, repetiţii şi filmări, interviuiri (zâmbeşte), trăieşti dintr-un geamantan. În rest, mai tot timpul mi-l petrec purtând blugi şi tricouri, aşa cum mă vezi (râde).
Rochia pe care am purtat-o la premiera filmului „Storm“ este o creaţie a Mariei Lucia Hohan. De obicei port rochiile ei. Iar covorul roşu... rămâne covorul roşu (râde).

Esti veselă. În filmele tale nu e mai nimic de râs. În „Storm“ interpretezi o fată din Bosnia, victima unui viol în masă, acum martoră la tribunalul de la Haga. În „Contesa“, regizat de Julie Delpy, pe Anna Darvulia, complicea contesei criminale. Critica este măgulitoare în ambele cazuri.
În „Contesa“ sunt cel puţin romantică, mor din dragoste (râde). Sunt iubita contesei pentru care şi mor. Articolele favorabile mă bucură... deşi pentru mine e greu să mă împac cu cine sunt pe ecarn. La început a fost foarte dificil să mă văd pe ecran, să mă aud. Acum trec printr-un proces de obiectivizare, fac un efort. Abia pe la a treia vizionare a unui film mă obişnuiesc cu mine în rol. Cred că toată lumea ştie fenomenul acesta. E ca atunci când îţi asculti vocea înregistrată pentru prima data. Te dedublezi. Când mă văd pe ecran, nu văd personajul pe care îl interpretez. Pentru început mă văd pe mine, iar pe mine, în situaţiile din film, nu mă pot contempla admirativ. Încerc, însă, să mă împac cu...realitatea. Cel mai bine mă simt pe platoul de filmare, atunci când „acţionez“. După aceea.... Îmi place şi pe covorul roşu, da (râde). Primele interviuri după o premieră sunt mereu complicate, pentru că abia atunci îţi defineşti perspectiva din care vrei să comentezi un rol, să discuţi despre el. Bineînţeles, când lucrezi, filmezi, eşti documentat, dar nu ai neapărat forma foarte clară în care ai putea să vorbeşti despre rolul tău. Mai ales că despre rol vorbeşti abia la finalul filmului, după „dedublare“.

„AM CONSULTAT DOCUMENTE DIN ARHIVELE TRIBUNALULUI DE LA HAGA“

Cum te-ai pregătit pentru rolul Mia din filmul lui Hans Christian Schmid?
Am avut acces la declaraţii şi mărturisiri arhivate la Tribunalul de la Haga, am vizionat o serie de documentare şi am citit câteva cărţi despre războiul din Bosnia. Pe lângă acestea, m-am întâlnit cu un refugiat din Banja Luka. E un prieten al lui Kresimir Mikic, actorul croat care în film l-a interpretat pe fratele meu. El mi-a relatat multe despre situaţia din vremea războiului.

În „Storm“, două femei, interpretate de Kerry Fox şi de tine, luptă pentru dreptate. Este important că eroinele sunt femei?
Există o anumită sensibilitate, o inteligenţă emoţională tipică femeii. În film este clar că Hannah, procuroarea interpretată de Kerry Fox, o înţelege pe Mira, ca femeie, într-un mod visceral. Nu ştiu dacă un bărbat ar fi fost tot atât de potrivit în rolul procurorului, deşi şi acesta ar putea empatiza foarte bine cu martorii sau victimele unei situaţii asemănătoare... dar nu ca o femeie, în acest caz. Totuşi, filmul este realizat de un bărbat...

Regizorul nu a găsit, nu a căutat, o actriţă din Bosnia? Sau te-a vrut neapărat pe tine pentru rolul Mirei?
Pe Hans-Christian l-am întâlnit pentru prima dată anul trecut, la Berlinală. Scenariul pentru „Storm“ îl primisem deja înainte. Un scenariu foarte bun, un rol ofertant. Îi cunoşteam şi filmele, îl admiram. Dar răspunsul meu a fost „nu“. Bănuiesc că multe actriţe ar fi acceptat imediat să joace rolul, fără a se gândi de două ori. Eu simţeam că, preluând rolul, aş trăda povestea... Era un subiect foarte delicat, plus că multe scene erau scrise în sârbo-croată. Simţeam că, acceptând să o interpretez pe Mira, pot lua şansa unei actriţe din Bosnia care ar fi putut să exprime prin acest rol sufletul, durerea unei naţiuni. M-am gândit la rolul meu din „4 luni, 3 săptămâni şi 2 zile“. Probabil că m-aş fi simţit trădată dacă regizorul, Cristian Mungiu, ar fi ales o actriţă dintr-o altă ţară pentru acest rol. Cum ar fi putut ea spune povestea mea, ca româncă? Urmând aceeaşi logică, am ales să spun nu. Nu fac orice, în sensul că nu aş trece peste orice, doar pentru a „exersa“ meseria asta. Sunt actriţe mult mai potrivite decât mine în anumite roluri. Deocamdată am suficientă claritate şi sunt destul de onestă cu mine însămi încât să îmi dau seama de lucrurile acestea.

Dar asta presupune să-ţi şi permiţi să refuzi roluri pe considerente etice...
Eu nu îmi „permit“ asta. Nu mi-am „permis“ niciodată să fac teatru... în sensul că nu se poate trăi numai din asta... Sunt conştientă că va veni un moment în care nu voi mai avea atâtea oferte, vine un moment de genul ăsta în viaţa fiecărui actor. Dar aş aplica şi atunci, probabil, acelaşi principiu. Profesia de actor pentru mine nu e ca o slujbă, eu nu merg la un serviciu cu program fix, 5 zile pe săptămână. E mult mai complicat cu „meseria“ asta...

„CU JULIE DELPY AM LEGAT O PRIETENIE“

La Berlinală, pe lângă filmul din competiţie, „Storm“, ai fost prezentă alături de Julie Delpy în filmul acesteia, „Contesa“. Coleg de distribuţie îţi este lauretaul Oscar William Hurt. Cum a fost această experienţă?
În film nu am nici o scenă cu William Hurt. O am ca parteneră de scenă pe Julie Delpy, care o interpretează pe contesa Bathory şi a cărei confindetă şi iubită sunt. Cu William m-am întâlnit la repetiţii. Talentul şi şarmul său au fost evidente încă de la prima lectură. Mi-a placut vocea lui...E o persoană specială.

Cum a fost colaborarea cu Delpy?
A fost o întâlnire minunată, din care a rezultat o prietenie. Asta are oarecum de-a face cu felul meu de a fi. Dacă nu întrevăd posibilitatea unei comunicări la o primă întâlnire cu regizorul, nu continui colaborarea. Trebuie să simt o apropiere spirituală şi emotională faţă de oamenii cu care colaborez. Am toată admiraţia pentru curajul lui Julie – nu e simplu să scrii scenariul, să-l regizezi, să joci rolul principal, să montezi filmul şi să semnezi şi coloana sonoră. Julie a rămas printre oamenii cu care am depăşit relaţia strict profesională. Cu ea mă văd, îmi scriu. Mă bucură faptul că m-a ales pentru rolul Annei Darvulia fără să facă legătura dintre Otilia din „432“ şi actriţa londoneză de la proba înregistrată la Londra. Delpy a văzut probele şi a vrut să ne întâlnim la Berlin. Eu am fost încântată să ştiu că m-a ales nu pentru că am făcut cândva un rol bun, ci pentru că i-a placut proba. Filmele de epocă sunt greu de realizat. Şi, deşi, de regulă, se simte când regia unui film este dirijată de o persoană delicată - la „Contesa“ nu se simte mâna unei femei.

Au fost realizate, până acum, mai multe filme pe tema Elisabth Bathory, contesa obsedată de tinereţea veşnică. Ce e nou în filmul regizat de Delpy?
Julie a evitat să se inspire din materiale din secolul 20. Mitul acesta a fost exploatat deseori, mai ales latura ce ţine de senzaţional, consumată şi deja banalizată. Sursele de inspiraţie ale lui Julie au fost scrieri istorice din secolul al 19 lea. Scenariul porneşte de la fapte reale, iar Julie îşi permite să expună într-un fel personal povestea asta. Declară că explorează o parte din ea însăşi, partea ei întunecată, şi eu cred că îi reuşeşte foarte bine. Din discuţiile cu ea ştiu că o primă formă a scenariului exista încă de acum 10 ani - ideea filmului o urmarea de mult timp. Delpy este o actriţă puternică. M-am bucurat nespus de primirea călduroasă a publicului la premieră. Neaşteptat...

Neaşteptat?
Spun „neaşteptat“, deorece sunt o fire destul de pesimistă. Nu mă aşteptam nici ca filmul „Storm“ să facă valuri, nici ca „The Countess“ să fie primit cu aplauze şi atâta căldura. Sunt subiecte complexe şi delicate, la care lumea nu vibrează neapărat. Publicul premierei a reacţionat la fiecare gest, a suspinat, a tăcut, a râs, s-a infiorat, mereu la momentul portivit. Este un semn bun.

Critica este de alta părere. „Variety“ critică sever filmul, iar pe tine te laudă, scriind ca esti „singura rază de lumină în distribuţie“...
Cum poţi fi un actor bun într-un film prost? Nu înţeleg logica acestei judecăţi, mă depăşeşte. Eu, de una singură, ca actor într-un film, nu sunt nimic. Eu nu pot fi desprinsă de întreg. Profesia asta nu se face de unul singur, de asta o şi iubesc aşa tare. Iar eu, fără Julie ca parteneră, oricum aş fi irelevantă în contextul acestui film, atât ca personaj, cât şi ca actor. În general momentele de „graţie“ pe care le vede şi admiră lumea, le datorez mereu contextului. Iar pe mine nu mă interesează să fiu o actriţă bună într-un film mediocru. Nu consider că filmul e slab. Fiecare are dreptul la o părere, însă... Am vrut rolul, fiind convinsă de calitatea scenariului. Şi m-am bucurat de fiecare moment din film. Respect dreptul jurnalistului de la Variety de a-şi exprima părerea. Am şi eu, însă, dreptul să o ignor.

„NU AM DAT DIN COATE NICIODATA“

O atitudine sănătoasă. Ai fost un copil răsfăţat de viaţă?
Cred ca da. Am avut o copilarie fericită. Provin dintr-o familie foarte iubitoare. Am primit o educaţie sănătoasă, ardeleneasca, as zice (râde). Deşi, dacă mă gândesc bine, bunica mea din partea mamei e născută în Tbilisi, în Georgia, bunicul basarabean, mama nascută în Ardeal, iar familia tatălui meu s-a stabilit pe la 1500 în Maramureş şi se trage din Serbia şi Cehia...

Iar tu eşti născută în Iaşi şi trăieşti în Londra. A fost nevoie să „dai din coate“ pentru a ajunge astăzi aici? Se spune că doar cine dă din coate reuşeşte...
Nu am „dat niciodată din coate“, dar nici nu ştiu, dacă „am reuşit“ (râde). Succesul este relativ, depinde ce înţelegi prin „succes“.

S-ar spune ca ai reusit...
„Jună sunt, de nimeni nu depand...“ (râde).

Profesional eşti cu siguranţă pe drumul cel bun. Sau..?
Sunt uimită şi încântată. Nu neg că mi se întâmplă lucruri excepţionale. Am momente în care nu înţeleg de ce mi se întâmplă ceea ce mi se întâmplă. Eu zic că aşa mi-e dat. Vin din Est, din Balcani, sunt mistică, superstiţioasă, ce vrei... Cred în destin. Serios vorbind, lumea vede doar jumătatea plină a paharului, însă eu îi asigur pe cei care cred că totulul e roz în viaţa mea că există şi un revers al medaliei.

În momentul în care ai înterpretat-o pe Otilia, în „432“, ai ştiut ce faci....
Filmul reprezintă pentru mine două experienţe deopotrivă, una este cea a proiectului finit, şi cu totul altceva este timpul petrecut pe platoul de filmare, lucrând. Îmi fac meseria într-un anumit fel. Acum câteva luni m-am întlânit cu Frances McDormand (n.r.„Fargo“) şi ea a zis ceva foarte simplu: „The job is the job“, spune ea. Indiferent de rol şi de producţie, adaug eu. Suntem profesionişti (râde). Există un anumit fel de a aborda un rol. Fiecare o face în felul său. E evident că a te confrunta cu biografia personajului pe care îl interpretezi, cu epoca în care este situat subiectul, este prima condiţie pentru oricare actor profesionist. Este important de priceput că noi, că actorii, suntem mereu parte dintr-un întreg. Nu e niciodată vorba despre mine sau despre personajul pe care-l interpretez, e vorba despre poveste. Trebuie să ai o viziune asupra acelui întreg ...părerea mea. Altfel ce joc, dacă nu înteleg povestea? De ce nu îi reuşeşte fiecăruia la fel de bine? Pentru că nu suntem toti egali, nu suntem dotaţi în aceeaşi măsură... Eu nu ştiu să fac multe alte lucruri, pe care alţii le fac mult mai bine. E vorba de talent: îl ai sau nu-l ai. Nu e pe alese. Şi nu e neapărat direct proporţional cu coeficientul de inteligenţă.

„SUNT FOARTE LEGATA DE SEX TRAFFIC“

Cum te-ai descrie pe tine însăţi? Talentată, inteligentă...?
Noi, actorii, suntem pictori orbi. De-asta spuneam că întâmpin dificultăţi când mă privesc, când văd produsul finit. Locul meu e pe scenă, pe platou, în „prezentul“ acela. Mai apoi nu ştiu...

E greu să lucrezi cu regizori, actori, din diferite tari?
Nu. Anul trecut am lucrat cu o regizoare olandeză în Georgia, cu un regizor neamţ în Irlanda, cu o franţuzoaică în Germania, şi cu alt regizor german în Bosnia şi Olanda ... Cred că artiştii au un limbaj comun, care se impune dincolo de diferenţele culturale sau de mentalitate. Cel puţin asta este experienţa mea de până acum pe platourile de filmare sau pe scenele de teatru. Lucrez cu oameni care mă plac, mă acceptă, cu care am ceva de împărtăşit. Nu am avut nici o problemă să joc Shakespeare într-o producţie britanică, cu distribuţie internaţională, chiar dacă metoda de lucru a fost foarte diferită de cea pe care o cunoşteam. Noi, în România, suntem educaţi, în şcoală, în tradiţie rusească – metoda Stanislavski. În Anglia am făcut teatru fizic, cu Simon McBurney – abordarea e diferită, însă mijloacele sunt aceleaşi. Nu am întâmpinat probleme de comunicare.

Ai o producţie, colaborare, preferată?
Sunt foarte legată de „Sex Traffic“. „4.48 Psihoză“, spectacolul pe care l-am jucat pentru prima dată acum 8 ani, în regia lui Christian Benedetti, cu trupa noastră, GAT 05 (Grupul de Acţiune Teatrală). M-a ajutat să mă maturizez ca actriţă şi ca om. Am relaţii foarte speciale cu Christian Benedetti, Ducu Darie, Simon McBurney şi cu Cristian Mungiu, relaţii care s-au născut datorită colaborărilor... Ei sunt persoanele cu care sunt în contact permanent şi cu care mă sfătuiesc. Sunt oameni de care am nevoie. Sunt nedreaptă, am numit doar câţiva. De actorii Camelia Maxim, Cornel Scripcaru, mă leagă mai mult decât simpla prietenie. Relaţiile mele sunt legate strâns de profesie, deorece îmi petrec mai tot timpul lucrând...

„ÎN ROMANIA NU EXISTA INDUSTRIE DE FILM“

Ce te aşteaptă la întoarcerea la Londra?
Prieteni, două pisici, Weedy şi Symba, şi o bicicletă. (râde).

Profesional?
Concret există un proiect de teatru cu Christian Benedetti, pe care-l voi juca la vară, :„4.48 psihoza“, în engleză, la The Young Vic. Sunt programate vreo 14 spectacole, după care vom merge cu spectacolul în turneu.

Filme?
Sunt doar idei, propuneri, nimic concret. Încă nu am semnat cu nimeni nimic. Am un proiect propriu, dar şi despre acesta e prematur să vorbesc. Anglia e profund marcată de criza economică mondială şi lucrul asta se resimte şi în domeniul artistic...E din ce în ce mai dificil să obţii finanţare pentru filme.

România nu pare aşa lovită de criză, cel puţin nu din punct de vedere cinematografic...
În România nu există o industrie de film, de aceea nu se poate vorbi de o criză în acest domeniu. Producţiile independente vor supravieţui. Iar noi vom face ce am făcut şi până acum, ne vom „lupta“ să scoatem câteva filme pe an.

"La Teta Asustada" a luat Ursul de Aur

"La Teta Asustada (The Milk of Sorrow)", semnat de peruana de Claudia Llosa, a câştigat Ursul de Aur pentru cel mai bun film, la a 59-a ediţie a Festivalului de Film de la Berlin.

Filmul prezintă povestea Faustei, care suferă de o boală rară, "teta asustada" ("sân înfricoşat"), care este transmisă prin laptele matern al femeilor care au fost violate în timpul luptelor cu grupurile teroriste din Peru.

La Berlinală au mai fost premiate coproducţia românească "Katalin Varga", de Peter Strickland, şi "Cea mai fericită fată din lume", de Radu Jude.

Ursul de Argint a revenit lui Gabor Erdely şi Tamas Szekely, care s-au ocupat de sunetul coproducţiei româno-britanico-maghiare "Katalin Varga", de Peter Strickland. Filmul spune povestea lui Katalin, interpretată de actriţa clujeancă Hilda Peter, o femeie izgonită de soţ - care tocmai a aflat că nu e părintele copilului ei - şi care, neavând de ales, pleacă în căutarea adevăratului tată.

Totodată, lungmetrajul de debut al lui Radu Jude, "Cea mai fericită fată din lume", a obţinut Premiul C.I.C.A.E. (Confédération Internationale des Cinemas d'Art et d'Essai).

Având la bază întâmplări reale, filmul spune povestea unei adolescente, Delia, care a câştigat o maşină în urma unei campanii promoţionale la sucuri răcoritoare.

În competiţia oficială au mai fost acordate următoarele premii:

* Ursul de Argint pentru pentru cel mai bun actor - Sotigui Kouyate, pentru "London River", de Rachid Bouchareb
* Ursul de Argint pentru cel mai bun scenariu - Oren Moverman şi Alessandro Camon, pentru "The Messenger", de Oren Moverman
* Premiul Alfred-Bauer - în memoria fondatorului Berlinalei, pentru un film care deschide noi perspective artei cinematografice: ex-aequo - "Gigante", de Adrián Biniez, şi "Tatarak (Sweet Rush)", de Andrzej Wajda
* Premiul pentru cel mai bun film de debut (secţiunile Competiţie, Panorama, Forum, Generaţia Kplus şi 14plus): "Gigante", de Adrián Biniez (prezentat la Forum); Menţiune specială: "Flickan (The Girl)", de Fredrik Edfeldt.

Secţiunea scurtmetraj

La această categorie Ursul de Aur a revenit filmului "Please Say Something", de David OReilly (Irlanda), în timp ce Ursul de Argint a revenit producţiei "Jade", de Daniel Elliott (Marea Britanie). Premiul DAAD pentru scurtmetraj a revenit producţiei "The Illusion", de Susana Barriga (Cuba), iar două menţiuni speciale au revenit producţiilor "VU", de Leila Albayaty, şi "contre-jour", de Christoph Girardet şi Matthias Müller.

Pana la sfarsitul anului, vor intra in cinematografe filme semnate de Cristian Mungiu, Cristi Puiu si Corneliu Porumboiu. Daca "Amintiri din epoca de aur" al lui Mungiu vorbeste de Romania anilor ’80, celelalte doua filme vin cu teme de acum: Puiu – cu crima de familie a unui om care si-a pierdut jobul, Porumboiu – cu dilemele morale ale unui politist de provincie. Sub bagheta producatorului Cristi Puiu, Bobby Paunescu regizeaza un film cu Monica Barladeanu in rol titular, inspirat de efectele cazului Mailat. Tema emigrantilor romani este abordata atat de filmul lui Razvan Radulescu, cat si de cel al lui Stere Gulea. Alexa Visarion incearca un "road movie de DN1", inspirat de generatia cool.

» "Tatal-fantoma", primul thriller pe model american, este un proiect con-ceput de Barry Gifford si Lucian Georgescu.



Intai, despre numele sonore. "Amintiri din Epoca de Aur" este un film cu o structura modulara, alcatuit din sase scurtmetraje, doua dintre ele purtand semnatura lui Cristian Mungiu. "Cred ca e o despartire nu de Epoca de Aur a lui Ceausescu, ci de epoca de aur a fiecaruia dintre noi, adica viata noastra fara griji de pana pe la vreo 25 de ani", a declarat regizorul, adaugand ca e vorba despre un film care se concentreaza asupra vietii cotidiene din ultimii ani ai comunismului. Filmul, regizat la sase maini, de Cristian Mungiu, Hanno Hoffer si Constantin Popescu, va fi lansat, conform cinemagia.ro, in acest an, dar nu se cunoaste o data anume.

Cristi Puiu iese anul acesta cu doua filme – ca regizor ("Aurora") si ca producator ("Francesca")
"Intermediar" al lui Corneliu Porumboiu este asteptat sa aiba premiera anul acesta si, daca ar fi sa-l credem pe regizor, "este mai putin hatru decat «A fost sau nu a fost»". Cu Dragos Bucur in rolul unui politist cu crize de constiinta, dar si cu Vlad Ivanov, Cosmin Selesi, Irina Saulescu si Ion Stoica, filmul este un pseudopolicier care descrie criza unui om al legii din provincie (duhul Vasluiului pluteste inefabil si in acest film) care ajunge sa nu mai creada in lege. Cinemagia.ro da ca data de lansare a ultimului film purtand semnatura lui Cristi Puiu, mult asteptatul "Aurora", anul 2009; sa ne rugam pentru asta. Filmul pune in discutie, in contextul crizei varstei de mijloc, o drama familiala ce sfarseste cu o crima. Protagonistul filmului e un barbat de 42 de ani, divortat, cu doi copii, care tocmai si-a dat demisia de la fabrica unde lucra. Tot sub bagheta lui Cristi Puiu (insa in calitate de producator al Mandragora), urmeaza sa iasa in prima jumatate a anului si pelicula lui Bobby Paunescu, "Francesca", cu Monica Barladeanu in rolul principal. Omul de afaceri, care a absolvit School of Cinematic Arts la Universitatea din California, speculeaza in acest film tensiunile interetnice declansate de cazul Mailat, pentru a spune povestea unei modeste, dar foarte frumoase educatoare (Monica Barladeanu) care vrea sa emigreze in Italia. Alaturi de "Aurora" lui Puiu, "Medalia de onoare" a lui Calin Netzer este cea mai asteptata pelicula a anului 2009 (conform unui sondaj cinemagia.ro). Sinopsisul filmului, cu Victor Rebengiuc protagonist, suna destul de 90’s, cu dileme morale postrevolutionare izvorand din comunism – inainte de ’89, tatal isi toarna la Militie fiul ca vrea sa emigreze in Canada, fapt ce va deteriora relatiile in familie, atat cu fiul plecat, cat si cu sotia. "Felicia inainte de toate", filmul cu care scenaristul Razvan Radulescu debuteaza ca regizor de lungmetraj, a fost terminat anul trecut, insa nu a fost comunicata o data la care urmeaza sa fie lansat. Romanul este de fapt co-regizor impreuna cu Melissa de Raaf, o artista germana specializata pe video, pelicula primind sprijin de la canalul de televiziune Arte. Inainte de a fi un film social (despre instrainarea emigrantilor), este un film despre relatii (de familie) – o romanca de 40 de ani, care traieste in Olanda, unde e divortata si are un copil, revine in fiecare an in Romania sa-si vada rudele; insa pierderea avionului spre Olanda determina o renegociere a relatiilor cu rudele. Anul acesta vom putea viziona in cinematografe si ultimul film in care a jucat regretatul Guillame Depardieu. "Copilaria lui Icar", regizat de debutantul Alexandru Iordachescu, este un film simbolic cu vagi elemente SF – Jonathan accepta sa fie cobaiul unui tratament genetic menit sa-i redea piciorul pierdut intr-un accident, insa lucrurile se complica in momentul cand intervine o idila cu fiica celui care conduce tratamentul.

"Week-end cu mama", de Stere Gulea, va fi lansat pe 20 martie
Pelicula de debut a lui Radu Jude, "Cea mai fericita fata din lume", a avut premiera mondiala, recent, la Festivalul de la Berlin – unde, de altfel, a fost si laureata cu Premiul CICAE (Confédération Internationale des Cinemas d’Art et d’Essai). In Romania filmul va putea fi vazut, probabil, in aceasta primavara. Lungmetrajul, realizat in coproductie cu o casa olandeza, are in distributie o actrita neprofesionista, Andreea Busneag, si pe serban Pavlu. Filmul e despre o adolescenta care castiga o masina scumpa la un concurs de trimis etichete, in urma caruia trebuie sa mearga la Bucuresti pentru a filma o reclama care sa arate ca toata campania a fost reala. Pe drum, fata se cearta cu parintii in privinta masinii, pe platou sunt alte probleme care dezvaluie conflictele latente din familie, dar finalul este fericit. Primavara aceasta va avea premiera romaneasca si coproductia italo-franco-romana "Mar Nero", in regia lui Federico Bondi si beneficiind de un scenariu semnat de Ugo Chiti (scenaristul de la "Gomora"). Avandu-i in distributie pe Vlad Ivanov – locul 3 in topul "The Times" al celor mai bune roluri ale anului trecut –, dar si pe Dorotheea Petre si Maia Morgenstern, filmul prezinta relatia dintre o italianca in varsta si menajera ei, o romanca. La inceput tensionata, relatia va evolua in timp spre una de solidaritate si prietenie, in care italianca o va insoti pe romanca intr-o calatorie in Romania, in cautarea sotului ei, disparut fara urma. Peste o luna, pe 20 martie, are loc premiera ultimului film al veteranului Stere Gulea, "Week-end cu mama", din distributia caruia fac parte Adela Popescu, Gheorghe Dinica, Razvan Vasilescu, Florin Zamfirescu. Filmul e scurt (90 de minute) si, pe urmele ultimului val, lasa la o parte politicul pentru a vorbi o limba sociala, in cazul de fata familiile care lucreaza in strainatate si isi lasa copiii in grija rudelor. Luiza, care a stat departe de fata ei timp de 15 ani, se intoarce din Spania. In tara, ea descopera situatii care i-au fost ascunse de rudele care au avut grija de copilul ei: fata duce o viata de vagabondaj, e dependenta de droguri si are un copil de doi ani, abandonat la un orfelinat. Cel mai probabil in aprilie o sa iasa in cinematografe si filmul lui Radu Gabrea, "Calatoria lui Gruber", cu Florin Piersic Jr, Marcel Iures si Claudiu Bleont. Filmul il arata pe Curzio Malaparte, in calitate de jurnalist si prieten cu Il Duce, ajuns la Iasi si cautand innebunit un doctor evreu care sa-l trateze de o criza de alergie, insa cautarea lui coincide cu zilele deportarilor. Florin Piersic Jr va fi prezent pe ecrane nu doar ca actor, ci si in calitate de regizor cu o (alta) pelicula independenta, "Nimic despre dragoste", in care joaca si Andi Vasluianu.

Thriller romanesc
Tot in 2009 va iesi si prima parte a trilogiei "The Phantom Father"/"Tatal-fantoma", un thriller regizat si scenarizat de publicitarul Lucian Georgescu, avandu-l pe Marcel Iures in rolul principal si construit ca proiect impreuna cu Barry Gifford (scenarist al lui Lynch – "Wild at Heart", "Lost Highway" etc.). Filmul, "cu alonja de Hollywood" (in cuvintele lui Lucian Georgescu), are o istorie traumatica in spate, in 2004 pierzand finantarea CNC, pe care a obtinut-o abia in 2007. Coprodus impreuna cu o casa germana de film, pelicula prezinta tribulatiile turistice ale unui profesor universitar care, documentand biografia a doi frati, ajunge in Bucovina rurala, unde o cunoaste pe Tanya, care condescinde sa-l ajute in cautarile lui. Celalalt film cu participare majoritar romaneasca rasplatit la Berlin (premiul pentru sunet), "Katalin Varga" al britanicului Peter Strickland, va iesi si el in cursul anului pe ecranele romanesti. Pelicula spune povestea unei unguroaice dintr-un Ardeal habsburgic atemporal, care, izgonita din casa de un sot care nu poate accepta un viol ce a avut loc in urma cu zece ani, porneste impreuna cu baiatul ei intr-o calatorie a razbunarii, pe urmele celui care a violat-o candva. Alexa Visarion va iesi in toamna asta cu "Luna verde" (scenariul: Iris Spiridon), un road movie de DN1 prin care regizorul incearca sa iasa spre zona cool a problemelor ultimei generatii – pretextul pentru dezvaluirea acestora e o calatorie de la Bucuresti la Brasov, unde un grup de tineri pleaca sa vada o piesa pusa in scena de un amic de-al lor. Filmul, in distributia caruia se disting Marius Manole si Tudor Aron Istodor (dintre tineri) si Razvan Vasilescu si Maia Morgenstern (dintre adulti), bifeaza probleme urbane, ca agatatul pe internet, arta, muzica psihedelica, teama de dragoste. Filmul de debut al lui Constantin Popescu, "Portret al luptatorului la tinerete – Aproape liniste 1", care va fi lansat si el anul acesta, si-a ales o tema dificila, dar cu atat mai curajoasa: luptatorii anticomunistii din munti. Spun "dificila" si "curajoasa" intrucat asteptarile publicului mainstream merg spre discursuri care aduc omagii acelor eroi locali, pe modelul Luciei Hossu Longin, iar riscul, ca regizor, de a cadea in adevarurile patetice si de la sine intelese ale anticomunismului e imens. Avand parte de o distributie proaspata (Dragos Bucur, Alex Potocean, Andi Vasluianu), filmul "documenteaza" grupul de rezistenta format in jurul lui Ion Gavrila Ogoranu.

Nicolaescu, in rolul lui Carol I
Sergiu Nicolaescu isi va rasfata si el fanii cu un documentar artistic, "Carol I", despre ultimele zile ale vietii primului rege din istoria Romaniei. Noul "Apus de soare", realizat la studiourile MediaPro Pictures cu o generoasa subventie de la CNC (195.000 RON, obtinuti in 1996), va straluci pe marile ecrane cu Nicolaescu in rolul principal, fiind o docu-drama care va combina elemente de film artistic cu inserturi nonfictionale din arhive. Pelicula va fi terminata anul acesta, insa nu s-a comunicat o data a lansarii.
